Low-cost, recycled, and practical furniture constructed from light gauge steel studs. Made primarily with steel studs, the “Stud Series” is 100% recyclable and contains a high degree of recycled steel that would otherwise be destined for landfills. The Series uses simple assembly techniques and a minimal number of materials to facilitate disassembly and recycling. The reflective, galvanized metal finish is durable indoors and outdoors and gives the surface a mutable appearance that varies with the lighting and surroundings.
We chose this material particularly for its contentious relationship with its wooden ancestor. In the Stud Series we are proposing a new reuse for steel, one of the most abundant waste products of the last century, to challenge conventional and symbolic notions of material appropriateness and use.
A standardized and repetitive unit like the steel stud offers flexibility in design and manufacturing, i.e., a chair can easily be extended to form a bench and so on. Steel stud streamlines manufacturing.
